If you’re reading this while searching through page after page of digital projectors, wondering if you should take the plunge – then look no further.
The viewsonicpj503dp is a great place to stop looking. I was taken aback by the value and the quality of this product. I was looking for something multi-functional, as I have young children who watch movies tirelessly, I am a big video game fanatic and my living enviornment doesnt consist of alot of big open space. The flexibility and overall final product this projector delivers at its listed price, might have you shaking your head in disbelief at the price of some of those “top of the line” big screen TVs.
Want a bright picture ? 1500 Lumens. Which means to the layman that even in a room that has a few lights on, the picture this item delivers is very bright. Want a big screen experience ? At 19.4 feet this sucker throws a 150 inch viewable screen. Want the high-def feel ? 720p. Which is what people’s hdtv recievers broadcast at for their hd televisions.
In addition to this, it has VGA input (computers and videogames), rca input (the yellow of the three red/white/yellow cords)and s-video input (high def recievers and dvd players). It doesnt even weigh five pounds, it’s smaller than your cable box and after rebate it’s not even four hundred bucks.
Still not convinced ? Viewsonic packs it with a two-year warranty, and a bulb that will last a whopping 2-3 THOUSAND hours if you run it in economy mode(which looks NO different than reguler mode if your wondering). With the cost of replacement bulbs in other machines reaching into the hundreds, a bulb that costs around sixty bucks and lasts that long is nothing to laugh at.
It doesnt have all the bells and whistles its higher priced brothers do, but who cares ! It’s CHEAP. It’s FLEXIBLE. It is a great bargain and I encourage you if you’ve read on this far to take my word for it and make this purchase. Oh, and if you’re looking – I have been to about eight of Amazon’s competitor sites to see if I could get it a few bucks cheaper and you can’t. Amazon sells it twenty five bucks cheaper than everyone else.
Enjoy !

(Would have given a 4.5 rating if available – was a pretty good hit with friends)
)
Pros:
1. The cheapest one in its range with 100$ Viewsonic rebate (442$ with tax in costco online for a limited time as of Nov 2007, priced a bit less then here at the moment)
2. Excellent display, colors, clarity – am using it in my bedroom on a white wall – 85″ display and 12 ft throw as a DVD, VCR and TV screen player – SVGA resolution good enough at this distance!
3. Very easy setup
4. Has good selection of video input ports (SVid, serial, video in) that allows convenient combinations (refer pt 2)
5. HD compatible per data specs.
(search ‘pj503d iamsri’ on youtube for a view. Warning: tedious setup routine)
Cons:
1. No zoom
2. No speakers ( but does anyone use internal speakers anymore ?
3. Not XGA resolution (though SVGA suffices and satisfies my purpose)
4. Switching channels or changing input shows a slight glitch tho’ not intolerable

I bought this projector because I needed one quickly for my daughter’s birthday and for general family use. I didn’t have time to research all the details of the myriad projectors that are out there. It arrived in time for the birthday and I showed a movie out doors. It was GREAT!. I really like this unit! It is bright,1500 lumens, even with a quarter moon and stray light from inside the house. It is simple to use and it is pretty quiet. It is a great projector for the price. (I was also in time for a $100 rebate so that made the whole thing a great value.) I am not a heavy user, so this projector is perfect. Viewsonic is a pretty good name in the consumer electronics industry. I don’t think there is a better value out there.

For the price, this is a great buy. Super bright, clear picture. Lightweight (a little big, but not bad). My only gripe is there is no zoom lense, so you need to move the projector back and forth to get it to fit the screen. I’m still happy with it, just miss the zoom.

At this price i would have not got any better projector. The pictures are clear and crisp and the screen is so bright. Amply suited for both presentation, photos and movies! Strongly recommended.
