The sound is good but occasionally distorted. I think it comes down to your tolerance for bad sound, keeping in mind that the sound quality will be with you long after the savings has worn off. (It has outstanding sound for a $2 speaker and that doesn’t mean it’s particularly pleasant to listen to.)
If you plan on traveling with portable speakers and want to minimize bulk, keep the cost reasonable, and have a somewhat better listening experience consider this: iLuv iSP100BLK Mini Portable Speaker for MP3 Players and iPod (Black). It’s more compact, more durable, and has considerably better sound.
To put it in perspective, I’m on a business trip and was given one of these as a “thank you” for filling out a survey. I’ve decided it’s worth tossing it in my suitcase for the trip home… but just barely. However, the next time I travel and want to take along a portable speaker it won’t be this one.

All and all, for the price (I paid around $5) it works for what I want it to (which is to listen to pod casts from my iPod touch but be able to move it from room to room or travel with it). I don’t regret the purchase, I’m happy with what I got. If you’re an audiophile this probably isn’t for you.
Pros
1.) It was under $5
2.) I listen to pod casts and it appears to work well for that. You have to turn the volume up on the MP3 player high to get decent sound.
3.) It will work with any MP3 player since it uses a headphone jack which is nice. It comes with a USB powered cable, luckly I had a USB wall adapter.
4.) Portable, compact, easy to take with you somewhere and it was only $5.
Cons
1.) The construction is a little flimsy, but I’ve had no problems with it.
2.) The USB cable is very short. It has to be right next to the USB power source (the cable can’t be more than a foot and a half). I’m going to have to get an extension cable (which I can always use for other things also).

It is a a good little speaker systym. but i don’t like the old list price AT ALL. c’mon 80$?! although it works well for travel. but i do not like it’s exposed speakers. If I were you I would buy this product because it is a good value for it’s new list price $10.00.

Very simple, easy to travel with. We bought ours for under $10 and that is totally worth it. We travel with ours very often. Our only complaint is that the speakers can’t go very loud without sounding distorted. It’s good for small areas or when you don’t need to turn it up too much. I think its just hard to find a great quality item like for this type of item at all. Overall, my suggestion, if you need something like this, for less than $20, this is the way to go.
