I’m looking for a basic and cheaper home theater system that would do surround sound for DVD player, BlueRay player, Xbox, PS3 and my laptop. Any suggestions? Will these normal DVD home theater systems do that?
@The One: Thanks for the answer. So, I should buy a receiver with speakers and not a dvd home theater. But what about TV? Will TV (from normal antennas etc) connect to that receiver for surround sound?

I found different options by different vendors on home theater system and HIFI music system. Both have almost same price and both capable for playing dvd and giving 5.1 channel output with equal number of speakers. Then why it is categorizing as home theater and home music system. Appearance is the only this i could make out.

I currently have a samsung (HCN653W) TV and am looking for a home theater system to hook up to it. I am looking for a system that is around $500. This should include the receiver and speakers. I only want it to be Dolby 5.1 and want to be able to hook up a dvd player, my tv, and possibly a blu-ray player for the future. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
I also do not want wireless speakers. I only hear bad comments about wireless.

Basically I am planning to buy a home theater system with a DVD player but want to know if i can use that even without the DVD player. If i am just watching TV, is my home theater system is used or sitting idle?

I want a home theater system with:
HDMI cable hook up
It doesn’t need to be able to play DVDs at all, just hook up to one
Good surround sound quality
A remote
Nowhere over $200
Is there any speaker system or home theater system for me?
If so, what is it or where could I go to find it myself?
Thanks.

I have a home theater system, already with some nice speakers. I also have a really nice sound system in my car, and specifically i want to take my amplifier and 2 subs out of my car and attach them to my home system. I have looked around the internet but i can never find any specific instructions. All i really think I need is a way to convert my amp’s power cord (usually attached to my car battery) to be able to plug it into the wall.. what kind of converter would i need? I think i can handle the rest (just plug the RCA cables into the system and etc.)
So mainly what i’m asking is how to convert my power cable that usually is attached to my car battery, into a cord that can be plugged into a wall outlet?
Thanks!
